The exhibition will be open during the period 23.3.2013 – 5.4.2013 at 12.00-19.00 (closed Easter weekend, 29.3 – 1.4).

The public will be able to acquaint themselves with the competition proposals also on the competition website from 22.3.2013 onwards.

The public can leave comments about the proposals during the period 22.3 – 7.4.2013 at the exhibition itself, on the competition website, as well as on interactive digital screens situated around the centre of Helsinki. A compilation of the comments from the general public will be presented to the jury.

During the week when it was open the exhibition attracted 2150 visitors. The liveliest day was Wednesday, when more than 700 visitors came to acquaint themselves with the competition entries. The exhibition interested both Finnish and foreign visitors.

The exhibition at the Jätkäsaari Bunker will reopen from Tuesday May 22 to Saturday May 26. The address of the Bunker is: Tarmonkuja 2, 00220 Helsinki. Entrance to the exhibition is via the west loading bridge of the Bunker, from the Itäinen Vaihdekuja side.  See Map.  The opening hours are: Tues – Fri (22 – 25.5) 11.00 – 19.00 and Sat (26.5) 12.00-18.00. Entrance to the exhibition is free of charge.

Competition entries will be exhibited at the Jätkäsaari Bunker between 10 and 16 May.

The City of Helsinki is holding an open international architectural competition entitled “The Heart of the Metropolis” for the new Central Library. The competition has attracted much global attention. More than 530 competition entries were submitted.

The competition entries will be exhibited at the Jätkäsaari Bunker between 10 and 16 May. The ”See the Central Library” exhibition will be open during weekdays from 11 am to 7 pm and at weekends from 12 noon to 6 pm.

The address of the Bunker is Tarmonkuja 2, 00220 Helsinki. Entrance to the exhibition will be through the west loading bridge of the Bunker, from the Itäinen Vaihdekuja side. See Map

After the exhibition is closed, a panel of judges will begin their work and select between six and eight entries that will qualify for the next round. These entries will be announced in September or October 2012. The final results of the competition will be published in June 2013.

Have a look inside the Bunker

The exhibition of the competition entries will also provide visitors with a unique opportunity to explore the Bunker. The building has been conserved in Jätkäsaari as a monument to the district’s former life as a harbour. The Bunker, completed in 1972, was originally built to serve as a cargo warehouse for the harbour. Plans are currently being made for it to host several different functions to benefit city residents.

Ideas for the Tree of Dreams will be collected
During the Bunker exhibition, well-known Finns from Rosa Liksom to Eicca Toppinen will share their dreams of the Central Library in the Unel-Moi! outdoor advertising campaign. At the same time, they will invite city residents to join the campaign and post their ideas on the Tree of Dreams located at the keskustakirjasto.fi website.

The architectural competition for the Central Library is part of the World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 programme.
The exhibition is free of charge.
